What we think the industry got wrong

Freight tech spent a decade solving connectivity. That problem is largely solved — a connection to a carrier is something anyone can buy now.

The pipe was never the hard part. Every carrier API returns a subset: accessorials that do not price the way the documentation says, rules that live in the tariff and never in the response, weights and status that come back thin or late. A consolidator resells that subset and calls it a rating engine. So you quote off partial data, book off partial data, and find out what the freight actually cost sixty days later, on someone else's invoice. Rarely one big loss — a few dollars a shipment, thousands of times.

Connections are a commodity. Knowing what the data means is not.

That "delivered" to a partner carrier is not delivered. That a reweigh caught in transit is a correction and the same reweigh at settlement is a dispute. That an address predicts a liftgate before anyone asks. None of that is in an API response, and all of it is what decides whether the load made money.

Which sets the bar for what a system has to do: complete the data past where the carrier stops, rather than passing it through. Run the quote, the audit, the invoice and the reporting off one record so they argue from the same facts. Put the judgment in the workflow so someone who is not an expert cannot make an expensive mistake. And make every piece work on its own, so fixing the part that is costing you money does not mean replacing your business.

Why we do not call this a TMS

Because most people who buy from us are not buying a TMS. They are replacing a rating vendor, or adding an audit, or pulling carrier data into software they already run and have no intention of leaving. Calling the whole thing a TMS tells those buyers the answer is a migration, and it is not.

There is a TMS in here, and plenty of customers use it. But the rating engine, the audit, the carrier data sync, the settlement and the reporting each stand on their own, over the API or MCP, under your brand or ours. An operating system is the thing your work runs on — you use the parts you need and ignore the rest. That is the accurate description, so that is the one we use.

Why the process comes before the software

Every Providence Solutions product is supercharged with the experience and vision of logistics industry experts. We optimize at the root level—where technology, process, and expertise intersect—to deliver an OS built for real-world results rather than a demo.

The loop that keeps freight getting cheaper

Driven by Proven Experts & Lean Six Sigma Best Practices

Providence delivers more than software—we transform your operations, end to end. Here's how our approach impacts every customer:

Discovery & Mapping

We analyze your logistics processes and challenges, mapping them against best-in-class workflows to find opportunities and value.

Configuration & Integration

Our platform configures to you—not the other way around. We connect your systems, data, and people for a seamless launch.

Continuous Improvement

Optimization never stops. We monitor, measure, and enhance your logistics environment with real-world feedback and AI insights.

Where AI actually earns its place

AI should never be a solution in search of a problem. We believe it must be strategically implemented—deployed only where it creates real value. When business rules or workflows call for natural language processing, contextual memory, or image recognition, we harness the latest AI technology to optimize your outcomes—never just for the sake of using AI.

Contextual Memory

Imagine interacting with data that remembers not just the load at hand, but your preferences and previous decisions—helping you every step of the way.

Natural Language Processing

This is the crux of the "new UI"—an entirely new way to interact with your system via email, voice, or chat. A proactive interface that communicates with parties when it matters most.

Image Processing

Whether it's an email or a carrier document via API, our platform extracts and updates your system automatically—turning data into action.

A carrier API is a starting point, not an answer

APIs are only as strong as the carriers behind them. And while carriers excel at moving freight, they aren’t tech companies—and API technology isn’t their core business. That’s where API Plus comes in. It is not the same thing as our own API: API Plus is the layer we put over the carriers, and our API is how you call the result.

Hybrid Rating

We supplement standard API calls with our own internal logic, delivering a complete rate calculation—often more accurate than carrier engines themselves. See the rating engine in detail.

Live Data Feeds

Tracking APIs often lack critical details your team needs. We fill in the gaps—gathering extra data from carrier systems, portals, and documents to provide a true single source of truth.

Smart Interpretation

“Delivered” to a partner isn’t delivered for anyone but the carrier themselves. Our logic is built by logistics experts, not just tech teams—so you get real, meaningful answers and actionable status.

See it run on your own freight

The approach only means something against real loads. Send us a lane, a carrier, or the load that went wrong last month, and we will walk you through what the system would have done with it and when.
